In a world of growing pro-natal movements seeking to strip women of their basic human right-the right of pro-choice-bodily autonomy has become the main topic of discussion, and abortions stand at the centre of it. This piece is a reflection of the consequences of abortion bans and a call to revolt. In the centre of it is a body itself-stripped, raw, and reduced to its most primal, haunting self. The installation merges painting and physical space: ropes of textile extend from the canvas, each representing one of many women that lost their life to illegal abortion. The dark, unsettling imagery of a naked female figure holding a dead child confronts the viewer with a brutal emotional truth, one that resists idealization, one that insists on being seen. Through its haunting imagery and corporeal form, the work invites the viewer to confront discomfort, grief, and rage-to acknowledge what is lost when autonomy is de- nied. It is both a mourning and a manifesto: a reminder that the fight for choice is not abstract, but lived through the body itself.
